?? Question for those that have successfully faded/are out:
by Darth Fader The Sequel inquestion: can any of you that have successfully faded out of the jw world without being df'd or da'd relate to me/us how you were able to maintain at least one or a few of your "still in" friends or family?
(and even if you were df'd or da'd and still maintained some relationships, how did that go?).
obviously, the truly demented, sick and twisted (and highly effective) policies and structure of the wtbt$ to set up a system by which anyone that chooses to no longer believe or participate must be treated as "mentally diseased" and a pariah by their own friends and family is the hands down, numero uno reason why many hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of jw's do not leave.

Dagney- I have felt the same way for a LONG TIME about the very limited, child-like, myopic conversations that are possible with devout JW's in a casual setting. I pride myself on being able to hold an interesting conversation with anyone from anywhere on almost any topic. I have done it in many different ways with people from all walks of life and from very distant places. Always interesting. But the conversation with so many of the JW's is nothing short of torture. Especially the ones that get all their world news and scientific facts from the Awake magazine. I quickly begin looking for an exit.

Balaamsass2, you crack me up. Good ideas.
In your opinion, how many years of successful evading does it take before the coast is clear? How many years of evading until the mild/occasional association with a JW is looked at as nothing more than visiting with someone who "used to be"? Know what I mean?

Good advice, Blondie. I do not really have a problem (or won't have a problem) with any elders trying to "shepherd" me ( I am a wee bit scary to a lot of people). Our family was recently reassigned to a new "service group" and so that elder (actually a pretty nice and sincere guy from what I can tell) approached me about doing a "shepherding call". I very politely and matter of fact told him that if he wanted to come over to our house one day, bring his wife and have breakfast/lunch/dinner with my family, he was more than welcome to. We would enjoy it. Then I said, "But I am not interested in having a shepherding call."
It has been a couple of months and I have not heard a word about it since. ;-)

Did you ever actually believe the JW fantasy version of "Paradise"?
by Darth Fader The Sequel ini am sure this topic has probably been discussed many times before but,......... i would like reassurance that i am not the only one who gagged every time i heard a jw pontificating on their fantasy version of what "paradise" will be like.
particularly when it comes to the animals.
more specifically, that the animals will all become vegetarians.

Kingdom Hall not a Safe Place for Children
by Jeannette inbesides having to sit through endless boring meetings during the evenings when they should be in bed getting their necessary rest for school the next day, they are falling asleep in the chairs with their little heads falling over.
then all their fun is taken away by such a strict religion and a desert god which makes them grow up with no self esteem whatsoever.
they tell them they're all sinners from the womb up and only a rod will remove it.

As a father of young children I was often appalled at the topics discussed at the meetings that were far too sexually explicit or violent for small children to be hearing.
As the father of a young daughter, I became increasingly concerned about her being indoctrinated into the mindset that she was a second class citizen as a female and that she must relinquish her own brain (That her mother and I have worked so hard on developing and instilling wonder, brilliance, independence into.) over to various groups of men to make her decisions for her and then eventually marry a man that thinks he can do the same thing. We are traditional in how we see our roles as husband and wife and we believe there are natural positions that healthy and socially normal people flow into. But I certainly do not want my daughter learning the WTBT$ version of "headship" and a "woman's place". F YOU!!!

When I see the JW's set up in public places with the literature stands.......... I get extremely embarrassed and avoid them. (I recently saw two JW's standing next to their literature carts outside the restrooms of an interstate public rest area. Is this considered "good territory"?)
When I see JW's out in public that I have known from other congregations or the circuit or from earlier in my life and they are not or never were a friend of mine...... I avoid them.
(This just happened the other day) When I see a a normal well-dressed, well-behaved, happy, apparently loving, nuclear JW family come into the Starbucks I am in on a Saturday morning and they are taking their field service break.......... I get an overwhelming feeling of sadness. That sadness is hard to explain. When I saw them and watched them I recognized the good that being a good, clean, respectful family can be. The parents attentive to the children. The children bubbling with excitement for their donut that is coming. Their contentment and normalcy felt good to see. But the smile it brought to my face quickly turned to a feeling of dread. Dread because I know this happy little family is not going to stay that way. When the young kids hit their teens this family will most likely be blown apart like a bomb was set inside of it. They will never be the same. Never be whole again. That makes me incredibly sad.
